[ Going still, he reads the message with slow discernment. Turning over the simple request stirs a warmth deep beneath his ribs. It feels out of place, the sensation new, and his fingers flex. Once, twice. A third time, but the feeling doesn't go away, entrenching itself in the depths of a place long dormant. ]
A sandwich would be appreciated. Sam made me a sandwhich too. It tasted good.
[ Better than anything he's made himself. Food is something he's approached with the same candor as he does any plan of action. He needs energy to function and acquires it with as little fuss as possible. The last time he was human, he was in a shelter where they provided meals for the people staying there. This time, he had to figure it out on his own and he chose the path of least resistance. ]
You don't need to do that Jack. I know how to get to your location. I stopped by to talk to Sam a few days ago.
[ The sentiment leaps off the screen, simple yet effective. Easy to read. There's no hidden meaning here, no ulterior motive. They're not disguised in references he doesn't understand or brushed aside. It's clear. Simple. And completely effective on him. It's why he agreed to his request. Why he finds himself yielding without complaint. ]
The sentiment is appreciated, Jack. But, I didn't stay long.
[ Long enough to have a meal and maybe a drink. Nothing more. He was too much of a soldier to lay idle for long. ]
My grace is returning if that's what you mean. I can hear prayers again, but nothing else.
[ And prayers, for now, is enough. It filled the silence of his world that once played the song of the cosmos in the background where now there is only silence. ]

time to take advantage of cas having the mol bunker?
[the rest gets set aside for now. sam and dean haven't really told him all that much about what angels can do. so any opportunity to learn anything new will always take precedence. that said-]
How do you pray? The bible talked about them a lot. But it never explained how it's done.
[ He asks, curious now. He started to teach Jack about the angel side of his heritage but they never got into his powers. He assumed, like all angels, Jack could hear prayers too. ]
Prayer is a conversation, nothing more.
brb claiming another bedroom for more family times
[ The wind carries his name and he lifts his head up to the sky, black wings shifting behind him, wanting to spread out and take flight. But they stay in place, his grace too low to carry him. ]
I can hear you, Jack.
[ He types instead, answering his prayer in the only way left to him. Direct flight is out of the question and after the incident with the other Castiel, he's afraid of initiating that mode of communication when he knows his true voice can be devastating to others. ]

he'll take a storage cupboard if it means getting to stay with cas okay
No. Prayer is [ how should he put it ] a soul seeking Heaven. It isn't supposed to hurt. Angels were made to hear them. Though, it can be overwhelming if you don't know how to sift through the billions of echoes.
Jack. You can't learn how to use it. It's something you either can or can't do. Exposing yourself to the true voice of an angel can kill you. It's why we use vessels, so we can communicate without hurting the ones we want to speak to. It's why I'm in this form. Dean couldn't hear me as I am even when I tempered my powers it still seemed to hurt him.
[ Angels were made at full maturity. There was no need to teach them. Anything they needed to know was preprogrammed and they all knew what was expected them. To see Jack struggle with this is odd to him, but it's something he has no problem taking on. ]
Of course. I'll help you with whatever you need, Jack.
.... orz /my heart
I can do that.
If there's room.
gotta keep his dad close!
[though if jack has his way, he's going to sleep on the floor so he can stay in the same room as castiel]
I'll let Sam know.
;_; jack is too good to him
I have a sleeping bag.
I can bring it with me.
cas deserves it!
Ok. I can make you a sandwich when you get here. Sam's teaching me how to cook, but I'm not supposed to use the stove unless he's here.
[sure, jack may be fine if something catches fire, but the house won't]
I can come and meet you, if you'd like?
they both do honestly ;_;

all the father/son bonding times
[and jack missed it? well, clearly that means he needs to make up for that lost opportunity. time to risk using the toaster too.]
yes please! they can both stumble through it
[ Would you look at that. The angel can use a door handle and walk, no flabbiness for this soldier. ]
I mostly stayed in the kitchen talking to Sam.
[ They had a lot to talk about. ]
they get to create their own normal and it'll be adorable
[though, more importantly-]
Are you feeling any better yet?
... they need to burn down the kitchen one day :|

but! on the topic of prayers, jack then puts his phone down a moment so he can stare up at the ceiling and say a quiet-]
"...Castiel?"
the bees claimed the gun rage for the winter, Jack can take anything else!
I can hear you, Jack.

I won't take advantage of that. I promise.
When you come over, will you teach me how to hear you too?
no! jack gets his old room and anything else he wants!
You mean what Dean calls Angel Radio?
daily cas hugs and he's set for life
[he can remember hearing all that sound at once. the pain that accompanied it]
Is that what you hear when people pray to you? Does it hurt you too?
how about one per week until they stop overwhelming him :|
only if they're a 20 second minimum
Prayers seem nice. I think I'd prefer to hear them.
Deal!
You hear loud voices?
[ That doesn't sound like prayers... ]
What do they want?

I didn't like it. That's why I want to hear prayers instead. I just want to be able to hear you and Sam.

Jack. Those were angels. You were hearing angels.
[ And that answers his question. Now, he's glad he was cautious and didn't try to contact him in the same manner. ]
Perhaps your human side makes you susceptible to our true voice.
